  • These are baby Green Herons. They were photographed in the wild but as you can see, they were standing on a rusted culvert. They were so comical I could hardly tear myself away from them! Baby birds are usually so homely, like these, that they are really cute!

  • Northern Cardinals are now common birds on the Maine coast, though not inland as much. Over the past few decades, they have made their way north and now reside here full time. I have a mated pair living at my house in Phippsburg Maine. They have been here for years and hatch a brood each summer.

  • Brood parasitism at play - A Chipping sparrow female feeds a Brown-headed cowbird chick as her own. The Cowbird's mother laid her egg in the nest of the Chipping sparrow, which then raised the egg to hatching and adopted the chick.
