    Osprey, also called Fish Hawks, Pandion haliaethus is a migratory bird of prey in Maine. This large raptor hunts only live fish. It hovers in the air over water to see fish then plunges feet first to capture fish. Osprey and Herring gull in flight, gull chased Osprey with fish, Osprey dropped fish (probably and Alewife) which can be seen on bottom right of image. Phippsburg,  Maine at Popham beach on the Kennebec River in spring, birds in aerial food battle. Pandion haliaetus, or Osprey are also called Fish Hawks. In Maine, they are a migratory, bird of prey. These large raptors hunt only live fish which they capture by plunging feet first into the water. They hover in flight to search below the water surface.
