    Belted Kingfishers, male top, female bottom. Note that the male does not have a russet breast where the female does. The way I remember which is which is that I think of the female as wearing a dirty apron. These birds are mostly migratory in Maine, though a few hang around for the winter along the coast where there is open water for fishing. Phippsburg Maine.
