  • . The Golden Road runs from the town of Millinocket around the top of Moosehead Lake to the Quebec border. It took nearly 1,000 workers nearly five years to build the private, 96-mile road. Completed in 1975 and originally called the West Branch Haul Road, the Golden Road reputedly earned its current name due to being one of the forest products industries’ main arteries into North America’s largest contiguous forest.

  • The Bald Eagle and the indian chief, Phippsburg, Maine. This rock formation is part of a ledge near our home in West Point. It resembles the profile of a native American man. The eagle was drying its feathers after having taken a 'swim' while fishing for mackerel.

  • Kalmia latifolia, commonly called Mountain-Laurel, and Calico- Bush, is a species of flowering plant in the blueberry family, Ericaceae. It is native to the eastern United States. Mountain Laurel is also known as Ivybush, Spoonwood (because native Americans used to make their spoons out of it), Sheep Laurel, Lambkill and Clamoun. All parts of the plant are poisonous to humans, monkeys, and cloven hooved animals such as deer, cows and sheep and goats. In Maine, Mountain Laurel is, but not sufficiently rare to be considered Threatened or Endangered.
