Kalmia latifolia, commonly called Mountain-Laurel, and Calico- Bush, is a species of flowering plant in the blueberry family, Ericaceae. It is native to the eastern United States. Mountain Laurel is also known as Ivybush, Spoonwood (because native Americans used to make their spoons out of it), Sheep Laurel, Lambkill and Clamoun. All parts of the plant are poisonous to humans, monkeys, and cloven hooved animals such as deer, cows and sheep and goats. In Maine, Mountain Laurel is, but not sufficiently rare to be considered Threatened or Endangered.
